I really appreciate how much easier on the eyes (and the brain attached thereto) pipedot is than so many other sites.

If the letters/numbers/symbols/this-stuff-I'm-typing-right-here that make up the summaries and comments were just a little larger (without me having to do anything other than load the page), I think I'd like that a little better. The size used in titles and sidebars and such is okay as-is.

...that he was trying to be tongue in cheek about there being nothing to complain about, which isn't always the case with GUIs (especially if they're from MS).

...but AOL was pretty smart to get itself acquired by Time-Warner, thus turning temporarily hot stock into something with a lot more long term value.

Of course Time-Warner were idiots for going through with their side of that deal.

...that we can enlarge to something worth looking at is okay and maybe in its own way even better than a generic icon, but big stock photos not much more closely related to the story than a generic icon would be, which is to say "the approach taken by many web sites these days, at least some of whom should know better, would be, by myself at least, unwelcome.

Overall I find the visual appearance of this site quite well crafted. My compliments to the chef.

...but either way, the lion's share of that is what the "content providers" are charging the cable companies, who pass that cost on to the subscribers.

So despite whatever other perfectly valid reasons you might have for loathing, say Time-Warner Cable, for this you can mostly blame the company that no longer owns them, Time-Warner, along with Disney, NBC Universal (owned by Comcast), FOX, CBS, etc.

That's a somewhat different goal from the average "backup", but

dd_rescue

or

ddrescue

do what

dd

does, but with greater flexibility.

I've used both in attempts to rescue TiVo drives (well, to rescue the contents before the drive finished dying, actually), with probably as much success as was going to be possible under the circumstances.
